The H. R. Haldeman Diaries consists of seven handwritten diaries, 36 dictated diaries recorded as sound recordings, and two handwritten audio cassette tape subject logs. The diaries and logs reflect H. R. Haldeman’s candid personal record and reflections on events, issues, and people encountered during his service in the Nixon White House. As administrative assistant to the President and Chief of Staff, Haldeman attended and participated in public events and private meetings covering the entire scope of issues in which the Nixon White House engaged in during the years 1969-1973. In preparation for the February-March 1972 session of the UN Seabeds Committee, Stevenson forwarded a report that recommended amendments to the U.S. negotiating positions indicated in NSDM 62 and NSDM 122.

Nutter endorsed the view of the Country Team in Iran, as well as that of USCINCEUR, that Defense should authorize the sale of the MAVERICK missile to Iran.

The last page of the document indicates that on February 26, Laird approved the release of promotional information on the missile to Iran, but qualified his approval of the sale of the missile pending MAVERICK’s successful operational tests.

Pakistani President Bhutto suggested that the United States delay recognition of Bangladesh until March 17 at the earliest.

President’s Assistant for National Security Affairs Kissinger and Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ch’iao Kuan-hua discussed the wording of the communiqué, specifically in relation to the South Asia crisis and the continuing dilemma over Taiwan. The main sticking point for Ch’iao remained Washington’s unwillingness to withdraw all its troops from Taiwan. Kissinger responded that the U.S. was “confronting …a very complex domestic situation” in reference to the “China Lobby.”
