Christopher DeMuth (White House Central Files: Staff Member and Office Files)
The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum has opened to the public the Staff Member and Office Files of Christopher DeMuth. Mr. DeMuth began working in the Nixon White House in 1969. He served as the staff assistant for the Urban Affairs Council and the Domestic Council. One of his main focuses became environmental matters such as clean air, air pollution, and energy. He also worked on community outreach for Earth Day. Another focus for Mr. Demuth was part of the Model Cities program. He was in contact with business leaders, government personnel, and members of Congress.
This release includes 23 boxes of newly opened files from the presidential years, 1969-1970.
This opening follows the Library's recent systematic review, which was released on February 10, 2026, regarding the White House Central Files: Staff Member & Office Files: Roger A. Freeman.
About the Files
The materials of Christopher DeMuth date to his time as an Urban Affairs Council and Domestic Council staff assistant during the years 1969-1970. His primary responsibilities included working with Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs John Whitaker on environmental issues and advising Counselor to the President for Urban Affairs Daniel Patrick Moynihan on the Model Cities projects. The collection consists of four series: Correspondence, Environment, Model Cities, and Publications.
