    • The President today accepted the retirement of Clifford O'Sullivan from regular active service as a United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati, Ohio, effective September 27, 1969.
    • Members of the Space Task Group met with the President at the White House to present their report on "The Post-Apollo Space Program: Directions for the Future."

    • JOHN P. HUMES, of New York, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Austria.

Archival Holdings

  • The H. R. Haldeman Diaries consists of seven handwritten diaries, 36 dictated diaries recorded as sound recordings, and two handwritten audio cassette tape subject logs. The diaries and logs reflect H. R. Haldeman’s candid personal record and reflections on events, issues, and people encountered during his service in the Nixon White House. As administrative assistant to the President and Chief of Staff, Haldeman attended and participated in public events and private meetings covering the entire scope of issues in which the Nixon White House engaged in during the years 1969-1973.     • 27. Memorandum From the President’s Assistant for National Security Affairs (Kissinger) to President Nixon, Washington, September 15, 1969

      Source: National Archives, Nixon Presidential Materials, NSC Files, Subject Files, Box 309, Balance of Payments. No classification marking. Bergsten sent this memorandum to Kissinger under cover of an August 26 memorandum indicating it had been revised (from an August 13 version) pursuant to Kissinger’s instructions and comments from McCracken and Burns. Bergsten recommended Kissinger sign the memorandum to the President. (Ibid.)

    • 119. Telegram 4138 From the Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to the Department of State, Brussels, September 15, 1969, 1845Z

      The telegram reported North Atlantic Council approval to proceed with discussion of the draft U.S. treaty with the Soviet Co-Chairman. It then provided a detailed summary of the comments made by each permanent representative.

    • 120. Telegram 3307 From the Mission in Geneva to the Department of State, Geneva, September 15, 1969, 1855Z

      The telegram reported Soviet Representative Roshchin’s questions and comments upon receiving copy of the new U.S. draft.

      In his discussions with Secretary of State Rogers, Foreign Minister Bourguiba Jr. outlined Tunisia’s security concerns relating to the September 1 Libyan coup and the perception of American global disengagement.

  • The Kissinger telephone conversation transcripts consist of approximately 20,000 pages of transcripts of Kissinger’s telephone conversations during his tenure as Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (1969-1974) and Secretary of State (1973-1974) during the administration of President Richard Nixon. Visit the finding aid for more information.
