Teaching the Holocaust
The United Nations recognizes January 27, 2021, as International Holocaust Day of Remembrance. The National Archives, in partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM), recently assembled information featuring historical documents on U.S. immigration and refugee policy during World War II and the Holocaust that can be used in your classroom. Through primary resources via DocsTeach and additional resources from the USHMM, your students can learn to analyze selected documents from our holdings as well as explore a multitude of other features such as exploring audio and visual recordings and viewing online exhibits. Examples can be found below:
- The SS Quanza and European War Refugees, a teaching activity
- Analyzing a Writing Assignment by a Teenage Refugee in New York During World War II, a teaching activity
- Primary sources related to the Holocaust
- Primary sources related to refugees and immigration during WWII
