FG 6-17 COUNCIL ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

This file contains materials pertaining to the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), which was established by the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, and the Office of Environmental Quality (FG 6-17-1), which provided staff for the Council and was subsequently established by title II of the Environmental Quality Improvement Act of 1970. The Council's function, as outlined in the Government Organization Manual of 1973-1974, is to develop and recommend to the President national policies that promote environmental quality, perform a continuing analysis if changes or trends in the national environment, and assists the President in the preparation of the annual environmental quality report to the Congress. Principal correspondents include, among others, the President, John D. Ehrlichman, John C. Whitaker, Russell E. Train, Dr. Lee DuBridge, William E. Kriegsman, Christopher DeMuth, Peter M. Flanigan, Robert Cahn, Dr. Gordon J.F. MacDonald and other White House executives.
