First Lady Pat Nixon's wore this beautiful dark brown velvet and beadwork couture evening gown to a performance in the White House East Room of the Broadway musical 1776 . The gown was the work of lead designer Karen Stark for the fashion house Harvey Berin.

We are excited to share the new objects installed in our Life in the White House museum gallery display! 

The new display features three of First Lady Pat Nixon’s couture gowns custom designed by Ferdinando Sarmi. The display includes his fashion sketches to show the creation process of the dresses, from design to final fabrication, as well as an examination of the artistry of the gowns.
