The Birthplace

Never before had the country acted so fast to ratify the Constitution as it did with the 26th Amendment.
Celebrate Constitution Day with the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum as we examine why,
after three decades of debate, the nation was in such a rush to give eighteen-year-olds the vote before the 1972 election.

Highlighted in this exhibit are the Nixon Library’s own archival holdings, including President Richard Nixon’s notes
from his speech at a ceremony celebrating the Twenty-sixth Amendment <link> and this private memo from President
describing his plans to direct his 1972 campaign efforts to the non-college rather than college new voters <link>
