Nixon Library Museum Galleries Temporarily Close for Renovation

Library campus remains open to visitors during upgrades

Yorba Linda, California, November 2, 2015 – After 25 years and more than four million visitors, the permanent museum galleries at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum have closed to begin construction on a major $15 million renovation.

Over the next year, the quarter-century old exhibits will be completely transformed into a dramatic modern presidential museum complete with updated technology, interactive displays and participatory learning opportunities.

“We encourage our friends and colleagues from around the country to stay tuned for regular updates on developments at the new Nixon Library,” said Library Director Michael Ellzey.

The new museum is scheduled to open in fall of 2016.

“It’s time to create an exciting state-of-the-art experience that will present President Nixon's life and career to the next generation,” said William Baribault, President and CEO of the Richard Nixon Foundation.

What’s Open at the Nixon Library During Renovation:

The Nixon Library campus is open to visitors. Tours of the President’s Birthplace, the memorial sites of President and Mrs. Nixon, the First Lady’s Gardens, the Presidential Helicopter and the White House East Room are open at half the price of regular admission.

Members of the Nixon Library’s Docent Guild are on duty during open hours each day to guide visitors to open attractions throughout the Library campus.

Hours are Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The archival research room administered by the National Archives and Records Administration is open to researchers and students during business hours, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Community events such as the annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day commemorations will continue in the East Room, as well as a full schedule of VIP speakers, noted authors and political leaders. The Nixon Library Sunday Concert Series will continue its weekly productions during renovation. Please monitor the website for information on the concert schedule.

The East Room and Gardens will continue to be available for individual, non-profit and corporate functions.

On display through November 15, 2015 is a temporary special exhibit, Discovery and Recovery: Preserving Iraqi Jewish Heritage, which details the dramatic recovery of historic materials relating to the Jewish community in Iraq from a flooded basement in Saddam Hussein's intelligence headquarters, and the National Archives' ongoing work in support of U.S. Government efforts to preserve these materials.
