FG 377 contains materials pertaining to the Federal Energy Administration (FEA), which was established by the Federal Energy Administration Act of 1974 (88 Stat. 96), effective June 28, 1974. It assumed the functions of the Federal Energy Office which was abolished by Executive Order 11790 of June 25, 1974. The FEA's responsibilities included regulation of fuel allocation and petroleum prices, collection of energy data, and energy planning with particular emphasis on energy conservation and expansion of supplies.

The types of documents filed under FG 377 are original incoming letters and memoranda; carbons and electrostatic copies of outgoing letters and memoranda; transmittal notes; press releases; government forms and cross references to other subject files.

The Executive file contains material concerning the organization, administration, policies and programs of the Federal Energy Administration. Topics include appointments to the FEA, schedule of public signing of Federal Energy Administration Act, financial situation of United States international carriers, economics, talking points and reports of meetings, fuel shortages, FEA regulation of international airlines, pending energy legislation, and FY 1975 objectives.
