Scope and Content Note

This subject category pertains to the approval of programs developed by local communities for the prevention and elimination of slum and blight conditions, including urban renewal, housing trends, and dwelling units required for families displaced by government action. Materials excepted from this category are civil defense activities related to housing (ND); disposition of Federally owned housing (RA); Federal aid for housing (FA); housing loans (FI); military housing (ND); rent control (BE); and veterans housing (VA).

Principal correspondents in this file include the President; Presidential assistants and advisers for domestic affairs including Daniel P. Moynihan, John D. Ehrlichman, Peter Flanigan, Bryce Harlow, Kenneth Cole, and Egil Krogh; OMB and CEA advisers, Arthur Burns and Paul McCracken; DHUD Secretaries George Romney and James Lynn, and Undersecretary Richard C. Topics include urban development, urban renewal, and rehabilitation projects at individual project, community, city and regional levels.
