The Archival Research Catalog (ARC) is available at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

Use the instructions below to search ARC for all Nixon-related materials and/or for specific Textual Materials, White House Tapes, and Audiovisual Materials.

• Follow Steps 1 and 2 before you begin any Nixon-related searches below.

Search ARC

Start here to open the ARC search screen in a new window.

1. Open http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/
   
   
2. Press the yellow Search button to go to the Basic search screen.
   
   

Search for Nixon materials in ARC

This is a broad search for all Nixon-related materials held by the National Archives. The results will include some items that include the term "Nixon" but may not be related to President Nixon. For specific searches, see below.

1. Enter Nixon in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. Select the Limit Results radio button for 2000.
   
   
3. Press the Go button.

Search for Textual Materials in ARC  [See Also:  Textual Materials]

Descriptions of collections and digital images of select textual materials are available in ARC.

1. Select "Nixon Presidential Materials Staff" as the Location of Archival Materials.
   
   
2. Select "Textual Records" as the Type of Archival Materials.
   
   
3. Press the Go button.

Search for White House Tapes in ARC  [See Also:  White House Tapes]

1. Enter the exact phrase {RN-WHT} in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. Press the Go button.

Search for Nixon Photos in ARC  [See Also:  Photographic Collections]

1. Enter Nixon in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. Checkmark the Descriptions of Archival Materials linked to digital copies box.
   
   
3. Press the Go button.

Search the White House Photographic Office Collection in ARC  [See Also:  White House Photographic Office Collection]

Some of the White House Photographic Office Collection, referred to as the Nixon Presidential Materials Staff, Master Print File, 1969 - 1974, is available in ARC. This series is comprised of photographs selected by the White House Photograph Office for aesthetic and technical qualities and covers many general subject categories.

To retrieve the digitized photographs:

1. Enter the exact phrase {NS-WHPO} in the Keywords box.
   
   
2. Select the Limit Results radio button for 1000.
   
   
3. Checkmark the Descriptions of Archival Materials linked to digital copies box.
   
   
4. Press the Go button.
